In complying with Executive Yuan’s policy directive in enhancing healthcare services to uniformed service members of police officers, firefighters, coastguardsmen, and national airborne service corps members (active duty and retired officers, as well as their bereaved dependents), Tri-Service General Hospital (TSGH) will offer preferred pricing benefits for qualified uniformed service members seeking healthcare services in the Taipei-based military medical center, effective from May 1st, 2019. Preferred pricing benefits offered by TSGH and other military hospitals include exemptions for national health insurance (NHI) copayment and outpatient registration fee, as well as nursing care and health check services. Qualified uniformed service members will enjoy exactly the same preferential healthcare services available to active duty armed forces members, such as express lane (fast track) services and priority inpatient admission.

In her inspection tour at Tri-Service General Hospital, President Tsai was accompanied by David Lee, Secretary General of the National Security Council; Meng-Yen, Li, Secretary General of the Executive Yuan; Teh-Fa, Yen, Minister of National Defense; Chung-Wei, Lee, Chairperson of Ocean Affairs Council; Kuo-Cheng, Chiu, Minister of Veterans Affairs Council; Kuo-Yung, Hsu, Minister of Interior; Jui-Yuan, Hsueh, Vice Minister of Health and Welfare (MOHW); and Lieutenant General Jiann-Torng, Chen, Surgeon General of Defense & Director General, Medical Affairs Bureau, Ministry of National Defense. President Tsai, cabinet ministers, and other senior government officials inspected TSGH’s preparatory effort in offering preferential healthcare services to qualified uniformed service members and observed operational procedures of TSGH’s outpatient registration counter and cashier counter designed for uniformed service members seeking healthcare. President Tsai and senior government officials also visited armed forces personnel hospitalized in TSGH and conveyed her well-wishing for their speedy recovery. After the hospital facilities inspection, President Tsai was briefed on TSGH’s international medical cooperation initiatives and their fruitful outcomes in rendering cross-border medical support and assistance. Immediately after the conclusion of TSGH’s international medicine briefing, President Tsai presented mission flag to TSGH’s delegation for Nepal international medical mission. The entire inspection tour was very successful and fruitful.

Dr. Shu-Meng, Cheng, Executive Deputy Superintendent of TSGH pointed out during his presentation that Tri-Service General Hospital’s international footprints have covered India, Thailand, Haiti, and several other countries and medical missions have included HADR (humanitarian assistance & disaster relief) medical missions, telemedicine facilities operations, disaster medical preparedness and exercises. In complying with and supporting central government’s “New Southbound Policy”, TSGH medical delegation also took part in rebuilding healthcare infrastructure of Nepal after its devastating earthquake. Starting from May 2018, TSGH has sent medical staffs to station in Manmohan Memorial Medical College & Teaching Hospital (MMTH) in Nepal to help enhance medical expertise, treatment capacity, and operational systems of the Nepalese hospital.

Dr. Shu-Meng, Cheng also mentioned during his briefing to President Tsai and other senior government officials that TSGH and all of its branch hospitals have completed healthcare information system linkage and healthcare operational procedures design and planning, per policy initiatives of the Executive Yuan, to provide high quality healthcare services to eligible uniformed service members. TSGH and its branch hospitals have completed all necessary preparations to ensure that uniformed service members will not only have high quality healthcare services but also superb service experience when seeking care in TSGH..
