To spearhead the medical center’s AI-enabled healthcare services and realize its strategic objective of becoming an AI-powered center of medical excellence, Tri-Service General Hospital (TSGH) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with NVIDIA, world leader in visual computing and GPU and kick-started medical cooperation projects between the two parties on June 10th, 2020. After the inking and taking effect of the MOU, medical teams of Tri-Service General Hospital will participate in the Federated Learning for COVID-19 Initiative jointly sponsored by NVIDIA and Mass General Brigham in the fight against COVID-19.

With cooperation between both entities under the MOU, NVIDIA will furnish the required software and hardware technological knowhow and help integrate medical data across different platforms to enable interoperability of medical data harnessed, subsequently apply medical data sets furnished by healthcare professionals of TSGH to optimize healthcare practices of TSGH clinicians.

AI-enabled medical cooperation between TSGH and NVIDIA will initially focus on collecting digital images of patients’ chest x-rays as the primary source of medical data and in turn employ NVIDIA’s AI modules and algorithms to automatically read and decipher patient’s disease progressions based upon chest x-ray images fed, and subsequently assist TSGH clinicians to determine whether or not early oxygen therapy or respiratory therapy are necessary for individual COVID-19 patient. AI technologies and solutions of NVIDIA will significantly assist TSGH medical staffs in making optimal clinical decisions on the one hand, and reduce man-made medical errors as well as decrease working loading of clinicians on the other hand, substantially contributing to increasing healthcare efficiency and boosting healthcare quality and patient safety.
