Dr. Chia-Luen Huang presents the Penghu branch results of a new concept of thyroid tumor treatment strategy at the Asia-Pacific tumor ablation conference in Korea.

As an endocrinologist and tumor ablation operator, Dr. Huang practiced in Penghu county for several years. With cooperation with the thyroid tumor therapeutic committee in Tri-Service General Hospital (Taipei), the local therapeutic team and instruments were gradually established. Dr. Huang developed a new strategy for huge, complicated multi-septa thyroid tumors with a combination of sequential percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA).

On Oct., 21st, 2022, Dr. Huang was invited to the international academic seminars of the "8th Asia-Pacific International Tumor Ablation Association (ACTA)" held at the Osstem Implant Gemini International Conference Center in Seoul, Korea. By using the newest RFA technique after sequential ethanol injection procedures, the volume reduction rate can reach 90~95% at one-year follow-up. The results of this new strategy were remarkable.

Radiofrequency ablation, a cutting-edge medical technology, is currently suitable for patients with benign nodules, papillary thyroid microcarcinoma, or palliative treatments for the recurrence of thyroid cancer. The advantages include minimal invasiveness, cosmetics, and an ideal tumor shrinkage rate for volume reduction. With this new strategy, the local thyroid ablation team can provide the best treatment option for Penghu county people.
