This year, our Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery team based on “Reconstruction for different kinds of head and neck defects with the submental flap“ won not only SNQ National Quality Badge but also the 2016 National Biotechnolgy &Medical Care Quality Award ”Silver Award”. Out superintendent Shih-Hua, Lin represented for reward.

The Tri-Service General Hospital is located in Neihu, Taipei. Our department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery focus on advanced head and neck surgery and aim at improving the survival rate and appearance outcome of the patients of head and neck cancer through all kinds of endoscopic laser surgery and robotic surgery.

In the past, the large defect after wide excision generally to be reconstructed with free flap; however, the surgical time is quite long and the flap needs to be meticulously monitored after surgery. Dr. Lee JC has started to use submental flap to reconstruct the defect of head and neck surgery via one-stage surgery since 2009. In the past few years, the outcome showed several advantage in shortening surgical time, reliable blood supply, and natural looking. We also shared these successful experiences through publishing in the credible journals in order to bring benefit to more patients worldwide.
