Introduction

Our department has 12 visiting staffs and is divided into three divisions, including: Peripheral Neurology, Central Neurology and General Neurology. We have three Associate Professors, four Assistant Professors, and four Lecturers. Our department has eight technicians and a clinical psychologist presently, responsible for clinical examination, such as EEG, EMG, evoked potentials, neck ultrasound, and autonomic test, MMSE, CASI, CDR...etc.

 
Clinical activities
1. All kinds of neurological disorders: out-patient service, in-patient service, emergency service and consultation.
2. All kinds of neurological diseases, physical examination of soldiers.
3. The neurological tests, such as the EEG, electromyography, nerve conduction studies, evoked potential examination, ultrasound examination of cerebral blood flow, muscle/nerve biopsy and other business execution.
4. Supervision and assistance with chronic disease hospital discharge home care execution.
5. Participation of the Penghu area of long-distance medical business related to neurological diseases.
 
Education and Training

For residents and interns, we have a three-year neurologist professional training. There are currently a part-time professor, three full-time associate professors, four full-time assistant professor, four Lecturers, and ten clinical teachers in the National Defense Medical Center.

 
What Diseases Are Treated in the Department of Neurology?
1. Vascular diseases: Cerebrovascular disorders (stroke) 
2. Epilepsy and Seizures
3. Headache: migraine, tension headache, cluster headache 
4. Pain disorders: neck pain, shoulder pain, low back pain, neuropathic pain (post- herpetic neuralgia, painful neuropathy, trigeminal neuralgia)
5. Vertigo and syncope
6. Neuromuscular disorders: amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy, polyneuropathy, myasthenia gravis, myopathies (muscular dystrophy, congenital myopathy, inflammatory myopathy, metabolic myopathy)
7. Movement disorders: Parkinson disease, Huntington disease, involuntary movements ( chorea, dystonia, tremor, tics, myoclonus)
8. Cognitive impairment: Dementia, delirium
9. Multiple sclerosis.
10. Infection of the central nervous system: meningitis and encephalitis.
11. Tumors of the central and peripheral nervous system.
12. Neurogenetic disorders: spinocerebellar ataxia, etc.
13. Sleep disorders: insomnia, parasomnia
14. Memory impairment
