The Center has been established since 1972 named as Animal Laboratory formerly.In 1978, it was officially constructed as the Experimental Surgery Center, where the junior surgeon could have the surgical training of various degrees. In October 2000, the National Defense Medical Center was moved from Tingjhou school district to Neihu, and so as our center.The former directors were Dr. Chih-Kai Chen, Tzu-Ming Chang, Chung-Yang Yen, Tai-He Yang, Yao-Chi Liu, Chi-Chang Lin, Guang-Huan Sun, Chau-Jye Fong, Ching Tzao, Chung-Bao Hsieh, Teng-Wei Chen ,Shyi-Gen Chen and Chih-wei Tsao since 1972. Presently, Prof. Hsiang-Yu Yang supervises the center. Along with the rapid advancement of surgical techniques in the recent decades, a wide range of training courses including microsurgery, laparoscopic courses, vascular suture skills, prevocational education internship, ATLS (advanced trauma life support) animal practice courses, and general animal suture skills are held frequently and regularly in the center. Besides, the recent mission is serving as the connection between clinical practice and basic science, such as animal model set up, clinical scenario imitation and surgical scenario simulation. The vision of the center is to provide the resources in improving the quality of military medicine, especially the surgical advancements, and also the medical research.
