| 絛蟲頭節
Scoleces. From right to left the scoleces are Diphyllobothrium latum, Taenia saginata, T. solium, and Hymenolepis nana. Note how small the H. nana is in comparison with the others. Hooks on the T. solium scolex are not distinct but the rostellum is evident. |
| 包膜絛蟲蟲卵
Hymenolepis nana and Hymenolepis diminuta, eggs (low power). Both eggs are photographed at the same magnification. Note that the egg of H. diminuta is larger, more yellow, and has a thicker shell than that of H. nana. The polar filaments are not prominent in this H. nana egg. |
| 縮小包膜絛蟲
Hymenolepis diminuta, egg (high power). The egg of this species is spherical and clearly different from that of H. nana. It is larger, has a thicker shell, is bile stained, and the inner envelope surrounding the oncosphere lacks polar filaments. |
| 短小包膜絛蟲
Hymenolepis nana, egg (high power). The clear, thin-shelled eggs of this species are spherical to ovoid and contain an oncosphere when passed in feces. The most prominent characteristic of these eggs is the filaments that arise from polar thickenings of the inner envelope surrounding the six-hooked embryo. However, these filaments are not discernible in all eggs. |

Taenia solium, cysticercus (gross photograph). This larval cyst of T. solium is known as Cysticercus cellulosae. It consists of a single scolex that is inverted into a fluid-filled bladder. |
