Guided by the military medical center’s core values of “Compassion”, “Quality”, “Discipline”, and “Innovation” and under the command and policy guidance of Medical Affairs Bureau (MAB), Ministry of National Defense (MND), Tri-Service General Hospital was awarded the “Institution-wide Smart Hospital Certification” and six individual certifications of “Smart Outpatient Care”, “Smart Inpatient Care”, “Smart Emergency Care”, “Smart Surgical Care”, “Smart Pharmaceutical”, and “Smart Administration” bestowed by The Joint Commission of Taiwan (JCT) during the annual (2020) National Healthcare Quality Award (NHQA) awarding ceremony held on Jan. 28th, 2021 in Taipei, making TSGH the first and only medical center in northern Taiwan to have received the highest honor and recognition symbolizing smart healthcare at the national level in Taiwan (pursuant to the new certification guidelines).

In response to the ever-increasing healthcare requirements and aimed at accelerating the construction and deployment of smart armed forces hospitals of Taiwan’s military health system, starting from 2016 a cross-disciplinary team consisted of TSGH medical doctors, nursing staffs, allied healthcare professionals, health information specialists, and administrative staffs was assembled to push forward the “Hui-Yi Project” or “Renovation & Integration Project for Health Information System (HIS) across All Armed Forces Hospitals within Taiwan Military Health System”. The initial project scope of “Hui-Yi Project” was further expanded to tap into the certification opportunities of 7 individual certification marks under 6 different healthcare service domains sponsored by Joint Commission of Taiwan (JCT). Through its participation in and application for smart hospital certification, TSGH has profoundly solidified its development of medical innovation and in turn provided innovative healthcare solutions and services of the highest quality to military and civilian patients under its care.

To ride the wave of the latest trends of healthcare services in the artificial intelligence era, TSGH has introduced technologies of AIoT, cloud computing, and big data analysis and consistently dedicated itself to developing and leveraging AI-powered healthcare systems and solutions. “AI-enabled Chest X-ray Image Interpreting System”, “AI-powered Funduscopy Image Interpreting System”, and “AI-enabled EKG Image Interpreting System” are developed by TSGH medical teams by combining healthcare expertise and experience of veteran clinicians with AI-powered interpreting and analyzing, capable of promptly sending out early warnings of patients in critical conditions to TSGH clinicians as soon as clinical exams are completed. The expedited interpreting and analyses timeframe and optimized clinical decision makings by medical staffs will facilitate follow-up medical management and greatly improve healthcare quality and clinical outcomes for patients under it care, to the benefits of both patients and clinicians.
