Difficult-to-Treat Gout: Doesn't Have to Be Hard

講者: 風濕免疫科 朱士傑醫師

大綱:

Gouty arthritis is the most common inflammatory arthritis in adults and is characterized by very painful flares. Gouty arthritis can progress to a chronic, deforming and physically disabling disease through the development of disfiguring tophi, joint destruction, and persistent pain. Standard treatments are effective in most patients. Gouty arthritis can have a major impact on health-related quality of life, especially in patients with difficult-to-treat disease. All studies revealed clinically significant reductions in physical functioning, economic burden through absence from work and medical costs for patients with difficult-to-treat gout.  Incorporating the patient's perspective in educational interventions is crucial, as it provides insight into what symptoms, experiences, and treatment outcomes are meaningful to patients. Group interventions and periodic "refresher" sessions have been shown to be effective in improving self-management strategies and medication adherence. Addressing knowledge gaps related to gout disease, treatment, lifestyle modifications, and optimal treatment goals is essential. Overall, a multi-faceted approach to gout patient education involving various healthcare professionals is necessary to optimize management and improve outcomes for individuals living with difficult-to-treat gout.
